Search for sub-mm, mm and radio continuum emission from extremely red objects

چکیده
We present the results of sub-mm, mm (850 μm, 450 μm and 1250 μm) and radio (1.4 and 4.8 GHz) continuum observations of a sample of 27 K-selected Extremely Red Objects, or EROs, (14 of which form a complete sample with K < 20 and I − K > 5) aimed at detecting dusty starbursts, deriving the fraction of UltraLuminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIGs) in ERO samples, and constraining their redshifts using the radio-FIR correlation. One ERO was tentatively detected at 1250 μm and two were detected at 1.4 GHz, one of which has a less secure identification as an ERO counterpart. Limits on their redshifts and their star forming properties are derived and discussed. We stacked the observations of the undetected objects at 850 μm, 1250 μm and 4.8 GHz in order to search for possible statistical emission from the ERO population as a whole, but no significant detections were derived either for the whole sample or as a function of the average NIR colours. These results strongly suggest that the dominant population of EROs with K < 20 is not comprised of ULIGs like HR 10, but is probably made of radio-quiet ellipticals and weaker starburst galaxies with L < 10 L and SFR < few hundred M yr −1.

Search for Calibrators for the Submillimeter Array: I. High-Mass Star Forming Regions
We present initial results of an ongoing search for interferometric calibrators at submillimeter (sub-mm) wavelengths with the Submillimeter Array (SMA). Powerful radio galaxies are commonly used as calibrators at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths, but many are not strong enough to serve as calibrators at sub-mm wavelengths because of their rapidly declining flux densities toward shorter wa...
متن کاملDust, Gas and the Evolutionary Status of the Radio Galaxy, 8c 1435+635, at Z = 4.25
We present the results of new rest-frame far-IR observations of the z = 4.25 radio galaxy, 8C1435+635, which not only confirm that it contains an enormous quantity of dust (as first inferred from its mm-wave detection by Ivison 1995) but also allow the first meaningful constraints to be placed on the mass of this dust and associated gas. The new measurements consist of: (i) clear detections of ...

متن کاملEMISSION-LINE OBJECTS FROM A PRELIMINARY UKST OBJECTIVE PRISM SURVEY
A visual search has been made of four fields using United Kingdom 1.2m Schmidt Objective Prism plates with a reciprocal dispersion of 1 180 A/mm at HP. Such plate material is ideally suited to searches for emission-line galaxies. We present a catalogue of 53 emission-line objects, which comprises 45 galaxies, where individual HI1 regions are resolved in 16 bright galaxies; 8 are emission li...
متن کاملThe Identification of the Submillimeter Galaxy Smmj00266+1708
We report the detection of 1.3mm continuum and near-infrared K−band (2.2μm) emission from the submillimeter galaxy SMMJ00266+1708. Although this galaxy is among the brightest sub-mm sources detected in the blank-sky surveys (L ∼ 10L⊙), SMMJ00266+1708 had no reliable optical/nearinfrared counter-part. We used sensitive interferometric 1.3mm observations with the Owens Valley Millimeter Array to ...
